Amid a sizzling start to Utah’s wildfire season, many cities across the state are banning residents from setting off personal fireworks ahead of the July Fourth weekend.
The restrictions come after Gov. Spencer Cox signed an executive order last week that gave the state forester power to prohibit fireworks over the holiday weekend. It also allows cities and towns to designate areas within their limits where they can be set off.
Professional shows are unaffected by the order.
Personal fireworks will be banned in all of Salt Lake County, but several communities across the state have taken advantage of the authority to create exempt zones.
We compiled a list showing which cities in Utah’s most populous areas have bans in place, which ones have designated fireworks zones and which ones are still thinking it over. This list isn’t comprehensive, so if you don’t see your city here, you may be able to find additional information on your local government’s website or social media channels.
