The Salt Lake Tribune’s AI Standards

At The Salt Lake Tribune, our journalism is created by people. When we use AI, it is to help with routine tasks so our newsroom can spend more time reporting, verifying facts and serving our community.

Here’s what you can expect from us:

Our stories are reported and written by journalists.

AI does not conduct interviews, write stories, verify facts or make editorial decisions.

We use AI as a tool, not an author.

AI may help with tasks such as organizing information, summarizing documents, transcription, translation, or brainstorming headlines and social media posts. We do not use it to write stories.

We verify information before we publish it.

We do not rely on AI as a source of facts. All stories are fact-checked by a journalist before they are published.

We don’t use AI-generated photos to show real news events.

All our photos and videos are shot by journalists.

We use AI carefully and transparently.

When AI plays a meaningful role in published content, we’ll tell you.
