AP Top 25: Utah women stay put, BYU men drop after loss to Utes

South Carolina’s win on Sunday won’t cost the Utes in the rankings.

There’s little shame in losing to the No. 1 team country.

And there won’t be any punishment in the Associated Press Top 25 women’s basketball poll either.

The Utes held onto their No. 11 ranking in Monday’s poll, a day after losing to top-ranked South Carolina, 78-69. Utah saw a career game from forward Alissa Pili (37 points) but couldn’t muster enough firepower without injured guards Issy Palmer and Gianna Kneepkens.

In the men’s poll, the BYU Cougars fell to No. 18 in the latest poll.

BYU (8-1) stayed in the rankings for a third straight week, but dropped four spots after losing an in-state clash to the Runnin’ Utes.

The Cougars open a five-game home stand this week, beginning with a matchup against Denver on Wednesday night.
