Former Oregon linebacker Harrison Taggart announces commitment to BYU

Taggart was a four-star linebacker out of Corner Canyon before he spent a year in Eugene.

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) Corner Canyon's Harrison Taggart hits Lone Peak's Jonah Heimuli during the 6A state football championship game at Cedar Valley High School in Eagle Mountain on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020.

Former Oregon linebacker and Corner Canyon alum Harrison Taggart is returning to his home state.

After one season in Eugene, Taggart announced he is transferring to BYU. He appeared in three games last year and totaled 10 snaps, preserving his redshirt season.

Before going to Oregon, Taggart was rated a four-star linebacker by 247Sports. At Corner Canyon, he recorded over 240 tackles — 97 of which came during his senior season.

He picked Oregon over USC, UCLA, Nebraska and a number of other Power Five schools out of high school.

Taggart will join a linebacker room that just added Utah State transfer AJ Vongphachanh. Ben Bywater and Max Tooley are also expected to be major contributors in that room in 2023.

Beyond that core, BYU had a trio of younger players step up during spring practice. Ace and Maiki Kaufusi got significant reps along with Isaiah Glasker.

Taggart has four years of eligibility remaining.
