Letter: Trump’s diversion of Pentagon funds helps Putin
(Pablo Martinez Monsivais | AP) In this July 16, 2018, file photo, U.S. President Donald Trump, left, and Russian President Vladimir Putin shake hands at the beginning of a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki, Finland.
Regarding your article “Utah projects falling victim to Trump’s wall”: I feel you neglected to address the biggest danger from the diversion of Pentagon funds.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, the Obama administration put in place military protections to help deter further aggression by Russia into other nearby countries. Trump wants to eliminate these protections and divert those funds to his wall. So, checks to Russian aggression on it’s borders will be greatly weakened, which will be a threat to democracy in Europe and around the world.
One has to wonder: Is Trump again making decisions to please Putin rather than to protect democracy? The danger posed by Putin is much, much greater than any danger posed by refugees seeking asylum at our southern border.
