Letter: Can you be a Republican and a Christian?

(Charlie Riedel | AP file photo) A gay pride rainbow flag flies along with the U.S. flag in front of a church in Prairie Village, Kan., on April 19, 2019.

I have seen where some believe that you can’t be a Mormon and a Democrat. That is confusing to me. I always wondered how you could be a Republican and be a Christian?

Christianity is based on the life of Christ. All he did was care for the poor, heal the sick, teach and bless the children. The only time he got mad was at the money changers in a church.

The GOP cuts education programs, cuts welfare to feed poor kids and is sending ailing kids that came to America back to impoverished countries to die.

Many people are judged by how much money they have. Multimillionaires are idolized by some, despite how they acquired their fortune.

In the Bible, Genesis 2:15, “The Lord took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work and take care of it.”

Psalms 19:1, “Affirm that we honor God by taking care of his handiwork.”

The party that started the EPA has pulled us out of the Kyoto treaty and other clean air programs.

A lot of churches believe that, after this life, we will be rewarded or punished for our actions on Earth. The pro-lifers want to control the pro-choicers. I guess they don’t think their higher power can do his or her job so they need to step in.

The Christian ideals are not in line with GOP ideals. So how can you be a Christian and a Republican ?
