Letter: Trump regrets running for president

(Carolyn Kaster | The Associated Press) In this Nov. 20, 2018, file photo, President Donald Trump gestures as he walks to Marine One after speaking to media at the White House in Washington.

I imagine Donald Trump might be starting to regret running for president.

During his campaign, I got the impression he didn’t want to win. He did everything to sabotage himself and, yet, here he is. Now all his under-the-table (i.e. illegal) dealings are open to public scrutiny, which, from his actions, he never anticipated.

It would be fun to watch, if not for the implications to our country and the fact many people continue to vehemently defend him of even the most egregious acts they wouldn’t tolerate from anyone else. They brush off his lies over things like the size of his inauguration crowd as unimportant (which it is), but don’t recognize that if someone is willing to lie about something so inconsequential and provable, he certainly won’t hesitate to lie about something you might actually care about.

Why the masses believe that money equates to intelligence, or makes people with money somehow better than everyone else, is a mystery.

There’s a reason the Bible states it’s easier to fit a camel through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.
