The body of a 17-year-old boy was recovered from Deer Creek Reservoir on Thursday night, several hours after he slipped beneath the water and did not resurface.

According to the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, Fernando Botello Arredondo of Salt Lake City was swimming with family members when he suddenly went under. The water was murky, and 4 to 8 feet deep in the area.

Rescue crews located him at about 7:30 p.m., but were unable to revive him. The teenager was not wearing a life jacket.
