A “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star says Dakota Mortensen told her of a plan to leak videos of Taylor Frankie Paul to TMZ in an attempt to humiliate the reality TV personality.

Jessi Draper filed a private statement in Utah’s 3rd District Court this week. According to Eric Swinyard, Paul’s attorney, the statement details a conversation Mortensen had with Draper, her husband Jordan Ngatikaura, and another man just days before TMZ published the bombshell video that led ABC to cancel Paul’s season of “The Bachelorette.”

Paul and Mortensen were in a Salt Lake City courtroom Thursday for a hearing over dueling protective orders and a custody fight over their 2-year-old son. In the end, Commissioner Russell Minas ruled that Paul and Mortensen must stay at least 100 feet apart for the next three years.

“This is a very toxic relationship,” Minas said. “... If I don’t order both of them to stay away from each other, there will be additional problems.”

Thursday’s hearing revealed new allegations — including Draper’s claims that Mortensen may have been involved with the leak of the now infamous video.

“He literally wants to destroy her,” Paul’s attorney, Eric Swinyard, said.

Swinyard said that Draper’s affidavit claims that Mortensen was in her basement in March along with her husband and Mortensen’s roommate. Draper said that Mortensen was animated, venting his frustrations about police “not doing anything” regarding reports he had made and saying he was going to “take matters into his own hands to embarrass Taylor,” according to Swinyard.

On March 19, TMZ published a video Mortensen filmed of a 2023 fight with Paul. The video shows Paul throwing metal chairs at Mortensen, one of them hitting one of Paul’s children. The video led to Paul’s season of “The Bachelorette” being canceled and Hulu pausing filming of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” fifth season.

Mortensen “specifically told Ms. Draper that he planned on leaking embarrassing videos of Taylor to the press, starting with the barstool video,” Swinyard said. “He specifically named TMZ as the outlet and a few days later, that exact video was released by TMZ.”

Mortensen’s lawyer, Brent Salazar-Hall, said his client denies leaking the video.

Earlier in the month, Minas decided that Paul must be supervised when visiting the child the couple shares, saying Paul’s “volatile” behavior concerned him. The commissioner reaffirmed that ruling on Thursday.

But he said the two need to figure out how to co-parent.

“I’m hoping you’re not just people who thrive on drama and conflict,” Minas told Paul and Mortensen. “You have to put your child first.”

During his decision, Minas noted that he found Mortensen’s video evidence “overwhelming.”

But Minas was “not persuaded” that Mortensen solely did all this for child protection. He said he found Mortensen to be deliberative, inclined to manipulation, and “calculating,” and found Paul to be “reactive” and that she has an “inability to control emotions.”

Michael McDonald, a lawyer appointed to represent the child in the case, stated that his concerns have not changed from a hearing in March, reiterating that he is concerned that Paul cannot control herself around children based on past situations.

He also stated that the Utah Division of Child and Family Services is asking both parents to do mental health and domestic violence assessments.

In the past few weeks, a Draper city prosecutor and the Salt Lake County District Attorney‘s Office both decided they would not file charges against Paul for accusations of domestic violence made by Mortensen in recent months.

Salazar-Hall said that Mortensen waited to report a number of allegations to police until recently because he was “afraid of the force that would happen against him.”

“He’s a domestic violence victim. He is coerced through romantic interest and through his son,” Salazar-Hall said.

Salazar-Hall said he thinks prosecutors did not file charges because they did not want to get involved in a highly public dispute.

A few days after prosecutors made the decision not to file charges, Mortensen posted a statement on his Instagram account, stating he was stepping away from the spotlight and choosing to focus on himself and his son.

Both Mortensen and Paul had family members in the courtroom on Thursday. On her way out of the courtroom, Paul stopped to hug Mortensen’s mother.
