Red Butte Garden adds another show in outdoor concert series

The lineup for the June 21 show features three singer-songwriters.

(Jess Wasson | La Blogothèque & Lucky Brand) Musicians Sam Bean, left, aka Iron & Wine, and Andrew Bird will be going on tour this summer and making a stop at Salt Lake City's Red Butte Garden, along with Allison Russell.

Red Butte Garden has provided another sneak peak of its summer concert lineup — with an indie-rock multi-instrumentalist and an indie-folk singer-songwriter co-headlining a show on June 21.

Multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird and Iron & Wine, the stage name of singer-songwriter Sam Beam, will share the bill on the “Outside Problems” tour, with opening act Allison Russell.

Tickets for the show are $56 each, and will go on sale April 25 to garden members and April 26 to the public — the same days that tickets for the rest of the summer concert shows will go on sale. Headliners for those shows will be announced April 12.

Bird has 16 studio albums under his belt as an American indie-rock artist who, essentially, does it all. According to Wikipedia, he can play the violin, viola, guitar and the glockenspiel. He’s also an actor, appearing in the fourth season of “Fargo.” He released his latest single, “Atomized,” last week.

Beam, who performs as Iron & Wine, is perhaps best known for his song “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” featured in the movie adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire novel, “Twilight,” and later on “Breaking Dawn: Part 1.”

Russell, a Canadian singer-songwriter, released her debut album, “Outside Child,” last year.

The first two shows of Red Butte’s summer concert series — Icelandic alt-rock band Kaleo on May 17, and the Trey Anastasio Band, a project from the lead guitarist of Phish, on May 20 — were announced previously. Anastasio’s show is sold out; tickets are available for the Kaleo concert.
