Prep sports: This week’s standout performers and key numbers

The TribPreps staff each week will choose standout performers and key numbers from the previous week’s action in Utah and showcase them. Here are this week’s picks.

Kurtis Hansen

The Corner Canyon senior played a big role in the Chargers’ three-game sweep of Alta in baseball action this week. He went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and two runs scored in Tuesday’s 14-3 series opener. He drove in another three and scored twice in a 2-for-3 outing during Thursday’s 12-2 victory. He finished the series by going 1 for 3 — his hit a solo homer — in the 2-0 win Friday. He raised his average to .345 with the strong week.

Kemri Curtis

The Syracuse senior batted .500 in a pair of Titans softball victories. She went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored in Tuesday’s 5-2 win over Clearfield before a 1-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs in Thursday’s 7-3 victory over Davis. She is batting .427 with 10 RBIs and 18 runs scored this season.

Gaige Morris

The Riverton senior helped the Silverwolves baseball team win two of three against Copper Hills this week. He started the series with a 2-for-4 performance, including an RBI and a run scored, in Tuesday’s 6-3 win. He then finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs in Wednesday’s 10-3 win. He went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI in Friday’s 9-7 loss in eight innings. He also took the loss on the mound. He’s batting .377 with 13 RBIs and 28 runs scored this season.

Caroline Stringfellow

The Syracuse freshman announced on social media that she verbally committed to play soccer at BYU. The Tribune girls’ soccer player of the year scored 29 goals and assisted on 32 for the Titans last fall.

Ronnie Walker

The Juab sophomore started her week with victories in the 100 meters (12.75 seconds) and 200 meters (26.29) at Monday’s Juab Invitational. She then finished third in the Classes 1A, 2A and 3A 100 at Saturday’s BYU Invitational, crossing the line in 12.79. Enterprise’s Jaslyn Gardner won in 11.84. Walker finished second in the 200 in 25.88 at the BYU Invite, behind Altamont’s McKinley Gallyer in 25.80.
