Utah Royals FC forward Christen Press named NWSL Player of the Month

Christen Press on Wednesday was named Player of the Month by the National Women’s Soccer League for August.

Press, who is currently on international duty with the United States Women’s National Team on their Women’s World Cup victory tour, scored three goals, tallied 13 shots on goal and created 12 chances last month for the Utah Royals FC. The Royals went 3-1-1 in August and vaulted to fourth in the league standings.

Press scored two goals in a 3-0 blowout of Sky Blue, and scored a third in Utah’s 2-0 win over Orlando on the road. She has six goals on the season and an assist.

Fellow Royals forward Amy Rodriguez, who leads the team with eight goals, finished third in Player of the Month voting. Portland Thorns forward Christine Sinclair finished second.
