Letter: That the LDS Church is concerned about gambling makes (dollars and) sense. But what about ICE?

Thank you for your reporting about the LDS General Conference and its speakers’ message about gambling. I agree that sports betting and online casino games can lead to trouble. I understand why “the church” is concerned.

I mean, when their peeps lose all their money they can’t tithe, right?

But what really troubles me is that ICE hasn’t been mentioned at this big conference.

ICE is very present in Utah. Why hasn’t “the church” talked about it at this big shindig? There are missionaries crawling all over the world sharing their message, signing up new members, etc.

And these same people they are counting as church members are being scooped up in this beautiful state we live in by ICE, and they are being shipped to God knows where (if there really is a god).

Why isn’t anyone saying anything? Why isn’t anyone doing anything? These are our neighbors, our friends and our church members.

Maybe not “the church,” but they are just like the rest of us and they are being treated badly.

So, I ask, why isn’t “the church” doing or saying anything?

E.A. Evans, Ivins
