Letter: Leave the fireworks to the pros
(Rick Egan | Tribune file photo) Salt Lake Bees fans enjoy the fireworks at Spring Mobile Ball Park, Sunday, July 4, 2010.
Like we’re on autopilot at this time of year, we are out buying fireworks as if it’s a requirement.
It’s the way we always celebrate Independence Day — also known as the Fourth of July — a national holiday. Every year, unwanted fires, injured people and terrified pets are a result.
Wouldn’t we all be much better off leaving the operation of the fireworks to the professionals who are contracted each year to stage the public extravaganzas that amaze everyone with their aerial colors and fiery explosions. Accidents on occasion happen to the pros but at least they are contained among the few.
I am not advocating abandoning fireworks for the Fourth of July, just leaving the operation of them to professionals and leaving the amazement and awe to the rest of us.
