Letter: There’s more to life than baseball

In a letter to The Salt Lake Tribune Tuesday, a reader complained about the lack of baseball box scores in the sports section and said the box scores were 95% of the reason they subscribe.

Perhaps they haven’t noticed that an entire half of the paper is devoted to sports on some days. Sports takes precedence over education, the environment, the arts and many other topics that people care about.

Perhaps this baseball fan shouldn’t be so greedy and think of the poor supporters of kangaroo boxing and three-legged races who get almost no coverage at all.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
