Letter: President Trump needs to stop misrepresenting people

(Evan Vucci | Associated Press file photo) President Donald Trump talks with reporters outside the White House before traveling to Alabama to visit areas affected by the deadly tornadoes, Friday, March 8, 2019, in Washington.

I am not a Democrat. I do believe in tough border security. I don’t believe in a wall. We should be stretching our arms out and trying to figure a peaceful solution to this problem, while also strengthening our border. The president has lied to us from the start of the wall talk. He calls the people who come here illegally, killers, drug runners and sex traffickers. Anything to scare the people. I have worked with these people over the years in construction, and the hotel business and this is simply not true. Of all the people who are here illegally that I have worked with, I know of only one person getting in trouble with the law. These are good people, Donald. Stop calling them what they are not.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
