Letter: Romney will say anything

(AP Photo/Rick Bowmer, File) In this June 20, 2018, file photo, Mitt Romney smiles during a campaign event in American Fork, Utah. Romney is calling for a high-tech early detection system and more logging to prevent wildfires ravaging the U.S. West. The U.S. Senate candidate in Utah said in an essay Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, the government can do more to prevent fires there and other places like California, which is fighting its largest wildfire in state history.

Call me a cynic. Mitt Romney will say and do what he thinks it takes to get elected. When elected, he will say and do whatever he thinks it takes to stay elected.

Those who expect otherwise are naive.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
