A BASE jumper died in Cache County on Sunday, when his wingsuit didn’t get enough lift and he hit the ground.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that its search and rescue team was alerted around 9:10 a.m. Sunday to the accident, east of Millville Canyon near Leetham’s Hollow. Between eight and 10 people were involved in the activity, with a 27-year-old man jumping using a wingsuit. The sheriff’s office said the man was an experienced jumper.

The man, whose identity had not been released Sunday, jumped from a height of around 700 feet. “Something went wrong,” the sheriff’s report said, and the man did not get enough lift with the wingsuit.

The man hit the ground “at a high rate of speed,” the sheriff’s office said. He was declared dead at the scene by the Life Flight crew that responded to the accident and helped remove the man’s body from the area.
