3rd person arrested in connection with fatal shooting at SLC apartment complex

A man and a woman have also been arrested in connection with the shooting that left Anthony Wheatley dead.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Salt Lake City Police look through car windows as they investigate a shooting at the Pebble Creek Apartments on 1700 South, where on person was killed and three were injured, on Monday, June 6, 2022.

A third person was arrested in connection with a June 6 shooting at a Salt Lake City apartment building that resulted in one death and three people injured.

Salt Lake City Police said in a Sunday news release that the 19-year-old man arrested this weekend participated in the robbery turned violent at the Pebble Creek apartment complex by “being inside the apartment and [taking] orders ... to start looking for stuff to steal.”

The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been charged with a crime.

Earlier this week, two other suspects, a 18-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, were arrested by Enoch police, after the pair traveled to Cedar City on the night of the shooting. They were then transported to Salt Lake City Metro Jail. The attempted robbery resulted in the death of 19-year-old Anthony Wheatley, along with shooting injuries to two other people. A fourth person was hit with a gun.

Salt Lake City Police said Wheatley and the arrested suspects had the plan to assault and then rob the tenants of the apartment. Upon entering the apartment, a fight broke out, and the multiple rounds were fired — two handguns were later found by police in the apartment.

The investigation remains ongoing.
