A person is dead after being critically injured in a car crash at Salt Lake City International Airport on Monday, police said. The death is being investigated as a homicide.

The crash happened in a parking structure at the airport around 2:40 p.m., said Brent Weisberg, a spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department, during a news conference at the airport.

One person was injured in the collision and they were transported to a hospital, Weisberg said. Monday evening, police reported that the person died in the hospital.

A spokesperson for the airport had initially said that a pedestrian had been hit by a car, but Weisberg didn’t specify at the news conference whether the person was a pedestrian.

The driver of the other car is in police custody, he said.

Police tweeted photos from two crime scenes Monday, one in the parking structure and one at the airport’s tollbooth exit. Weisberg was unclear what had happened at the tollbooth.
