Man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping after Utah Amber Alert

The subject of the alert, a 14-year-old girl, was found in Texas on Tuesday.

A man was arrested in Texas on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping in connection with an Amber Alert issued in Utah earlier this week.

On Tuesday, the alert described a 14-year-old Utah girl who authorities said had been kidnapped and whose life was in danger. Police on Monday evening had initially reported that she ran away.

Later on Tuesday, Unified Police said the girl had been found in Texas and that a suspect was in custody.

Investigators believe the girl was taken to Texas by a man who had first traveled to Utah from there. Police spokesperson Melody Cutler said that the two apparently met on social media.

A man with the same name as the 20-year-old suspect identified in the Amber Alert on Tuesday appeared in Bexar County custody and court records following the reported arrest. He was being held without bail.

It’s unclear whether the man arrested has been formally charged. His attorney didn’t reply to a request for comment Thursday. The Salt Lake Tribune typically doesn’t name suspects unless they have been charged with a crime.

Unified Police on Tuesday said the department would be sending detectives to Texas to continue investigating. Police didn’t return a voicemail requesting comment Thursday.
