Winter weather advisory in place for most of Utah

More snow is expected south of Salt Lake City, and high winds are expected to the north.

More winter weather is expected after snowfall overnight Monday and early Tuesday in the Salt Lake Valley area made roads slick and snarled traffic during the morning commute.

Most of the state, including the Wasatch Front, is under a winter weather advisory through 5 p.m. Wednesday. Meanwhile, the majority of southern Utah is under a winter storm warning through 5 p.m. Wednesday.

In Salt Lake City, there’s a a 40% chance of more snow on Wednesday. However, little accumulation is expected — maybe an inch or so.

Temperatures will remain colder than normal — as much as 15-20 degrees below normal for this time of year. Expect a high of 28 degrees on Wednesday, with an overnight low of 14. Highs of 30 and 32 degrees are expected on Thursday and Friday, with lows of 18 and 15 degrees, respectively.

North of Salt Lake City, high winds are expected and property damage is possible near Farmington, Ogden and Weber Canyons on Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts of up to 50 mph are possible.

More snow accumulation is expected in central and southern Utah. There could be 3-5 inches in Manti, Ephraim, Richfield, Price, Delta, Nephi, Duchesne and Panguitch; 4-7 inches in Beaver and Cedar City; 3-10 inches in Springdale, Bryce Canyon City, Kanab, Escalante, Loa, Torrey and Hanksville; and 6-12 inches in Cove Fort and Scofield.

Utah’s southern mountains, including the cities of Brian Head and Alton, could get 1-2 feet of snow.

In St. George, temperatures will be 10-20 degrees below normal for the next couple of days, and residents there can expect to see snow accumulation. There’s a a 70% chance of snow on Wednesday, and there could be up to 2 inches of snow mixed with rain.

The forecast calls for a high of 42 degrees on Wednesday and a low of 21. Highs of 43 and 48 are expected on Thursday and Friday, with lows of 21 and 20, respectively.

Normal highs there this time of year are in the low 60s, and St. George will get close to that on Sunday with a high of 57.
