Ice cream fans, get ready: Utah’s first location of Salt & Straw is opening this week in Riverton at Mountain View Village.

The new outpost of the national ice cream brand is opening Friday at 4489 W. Partridge Hill Lane, Suite S-120, next door to R&R Barbecue, a publicist said.

For the opening, Salt & Straw will debut its Frosted Pink Sugar Cookie Dough flavor, inspired by Utah’s dirty soda culture and made with sweet cream ice cream loaded with vanilla sugar cookie crumbles, chewy sugar cookie dough and ribbons of pink frosting, according to the publicist.

Salt & Straw’s regular menu will also be available alongside a recently launched flavor called The Great Candycopia, a Halloween offering, which features a trick-or-treat-level bounty of chocolate candies dumped into salted butterscotch ice cream, the publicist said.

On Friday, Salt & Straw will roll out a literal red carpet to welcome families as a photo opportunity, and the first 100 people in line will receive gift cards of varying values. The grand prize is free ice cream for a year.

On Saturday, kids will get a free scoop with every purchase, and there will be face-painting on-site from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Salt & Straw is known for its unusual flavor combinations, like Chocolate Malted Potato Chip Cupcake, and it has locations nationwide, including in California, Florida and Texas.

Back in April, a publicist said Salt & Straw’s first Utah location would be opening at Trolley Square in Salt Lake City, but it appears that the Riverton location will actually be the first.
