Utah women down Hawaii 73-57 for fifth win of the season

Brynna Maxwell scored 23 points to lead the University of Utah women’s basketball team to a 73-57 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night at the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu.

Maxwell was 8 of 15 from the floor, including 5 of 9 on 3-point attempts, marking the the third time she’s had five 3-pointers in a game this season. Dru Gylten and Kennady McQueen joined Maxwell in double figures with 10 points apiece. Dru Gylten paced the Utes (5-1) with seven rebounds and five assists.

Utah hit 10 3-pointers in the win and improved to 34-10 when hitting 10 or more threes in a game since 2009-10.

“Winning in Hawaii against Hawaii is never easy,” Utah coach Lynne Roberts said. “We shot the ball well, crashed the boards, and found a way. I’m proud of our team for keeping their heads on straight and getting the win.”

Utah returns to action on Sunday when it plays Eastern Illinois in its final game of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. MST.
