Obstructed-view seats at the Delta Center will be a thing of the past next season — at least for one side of the arena.

Smith Entertainment Group has begun another summer of renovations at the downtown arena, continuing to retrofit a venue built for basketball so that it can also accommodate hockey.

On the north side of the arena, SEG will add “terrace-style ledges” with seats that have a full view of the ice. The terraces will stack onto each other vertically, creating a steep angle so every person can see the goal directly below them.

“Instead of something that goes long and back, we’ve gone extremely vertical,” Utah Mammoth and Jazz owner Ryan Smith said. “That view is pretty incredible. Double black diamond area.”

This season, seats in the upper bowl could only see one goal. Since the arena was built for basketball, and the hockey ice is much longer than a court, the upper bowl seats didn’t have a view of half the ice below them.

The Utah Mammoth sold about 4,000 obstructed-view seats in the upper deck for discounted prices.

In addition to the north end zone terraces, Smith plans to install two “suspended gondolas” hanging from the top of the arena along the sidelines. These will be suite-like structures that add about 200 fans with a full view of the ice.

The team will take care of the south side of the upper bowl in 2027.

The plan is to connect the lower and upper bowls on that side of the arena, creating one continuous wall of seating where everyone can see.

A similar concept has been done in Los Angeles, where the NBA’s Clippers built a massive wall of seating near the opposing team’s bench.

The construction is part of a three-year renovation project on the Delta Center to incorporate basketball and hockey. The team finished construction on the lower bowl last year.

The team plans on building a new entrance to the arena. A parking garage on the southwest corner of the property will be completed for the start of the 2026-27 season.
