Short-handed Real Salt Lake hangs on for draw vs. FC Dallas

RSL forward Agada gets sent off in 58th minute with his second yellow card.

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Real Salt Lake midfielder Diego Luna, shown during a game last season, scored for Real Salt Lake in a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday, notching his sixth goal over six games.

Real Salt Lake battled to a 1-1 tie with host FC Dallas in a Major League Soccer game on Saturday, hanging on for the draw while playing short-handed for most of the second half.

RSL forward William Agada was tagged for his second yellow card and sent off in the 58th minute. Agada was driving toward the goal when Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes came out to challenge him; Agada fell to the ground and was called for diving.

RSL (4-7-1) took a 1-0 lead on Diego Luna’s spectacular goal in the 24th minute. Controlling the ball, Luna spun in a crowd of defenders and nailed a shot from the top of the box. Luna has now scored six goals over RSL’s past six games.

Anderson Julio — acquired from RSL in a December trade — evened the score in the 53rd minute for Dallas (4-4-4).

Each team tallied seven shots, while RSL, wrapping up a string of three straight road games, had a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.

Real Salt Lake is scheduled to return to action at home on Wednesday (7:30 p.m., Apple TV) against the Portland Timbers.
