Park City Mountain sets new closing date, its latest in 30 years

Ski area reports receiving its most snow to date in at least 49 years

It’s been an unexpectedly good year for Park City Mountain, which has received the most snow to date in at least 49 years. So, the ski area decided it should do something unexpected as well.

On Monday, Park City Mountain announced it will be going later into the spring than it has in 30 years.

The largest lift-serviced ski area in the United States will stay open through April 23 after seeing more than 450 inches of snow stack up there so far this season. The new closing date — which is two weeks after its initial closing date — will be its latest since 1993, according to resort records.

“My first season back working with the team at Park City Mountain has truly been an experience of a lifetime,” Deirdra Walsh, vice president and chief operating officer of Park City Mountain, said in a news release. “From our early opening in November and spinning all lifts by Christmas Day, through more than 400 [inches] of snowfall by March 1 — I have been mindful to appreciate every day. Thanks to record-breaking conditions and the hard work and dedication of all our teams and team members, we’re thrilled to be able to offer two additional weeks of skiing and riding beyond what we had previously announced.”

The resort will have a “majority of chairlifts and trails, operating out of both” the Mountain Village and Canyons base areas open through April 16, according to the news release. After that, access to the mountain will only be available out of Mountain Village.

Parking at Mountain Village surface lots will be free and reservations will not be required starting April 2.

The resort’s annual pond skim will be held at the Mountain Village on April 8. Sales of the 2023-24 Epic Pass are set to begin Tuesday.
