Real Salt Lake has signed former Atlanta United midfielder Justin Meram, the club announced Tuesday.

“Justin is a versatile, accomplished attacking player in our league,” RSL general manager Elliot Fall said in a statement. “He has proven year after year to be productive in multiple roles and that experience will provide excellent value to our young roster.”

The 31-year-old Michigan native played nine games and started four last season for Atlanta, which won the Major League Soccer championship in 2018. He was traded from the Columbus Crew to Atlanta last May after spending a season and a half there.

Meram has spent most of his career with Columbus. He started there in 2011 and was traded to Orlando City in 2018. He was traded back to Columbus just six months after arriving in Orlando.

RSL is Meram’s fourth MLS team. He has played 259 total games and started 189, including playoffs. He’s tallied 46 goals and 39 assists in his career.
