Southern Utah fires women’s basketball coach Chris Boettcher

Cedar City • Southern Utah University has fired women’s basketball coach Chris Boettcher, the school announced Tuesday.

The Thunderbirds finished 3-27 overall and 2-16 in the Big Sky Conference this past season, Boettcher’s fourth as a head coach at SUU.

“On behalf of the university and the Cedar City community, I want to thank coach Boettcher for his work ethic and dedication to the women’s basketball program,” Southern Utah athletic director Debbie Corum said in a news release. “We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Dionisio Gomez, who was named associate head coach ahead of the 2017-18 season, has been put in charge of current team activities.

A national search for the next women’s basketball head coach will begin immediately.
