I have recently become very curious about how Salt Lake City’s Streets Division decides which streets to resurface. Earlier this summer, the 1500-1700 blocks of Roosevelt Avenue were resurfaced. I thought that odd as that street was in much better shape than many of those in the neighborhood. Emerson Avenue, one block south, is in much worse condition and 1700 East, south of Harrison Avenue, is a bicyclist’s nightmare.
I wrote to my council person, Dan Dugan, to ask why. He did not give me the courtesy of a response. I wrote to the streets department. They too did not give me the courtesy of a response.
The decision to resurface is obviously not needed, so what is it? Random? Important people live on the street? Something else? I truly want to know.
