The long-awaited (by investors) initial public stock offering of Elon Musk’s SpaceX is now in the record books, having sold more than a trillion dollars’ worth of shares its first day.
What was so attractive to investors, you ask? One major reason was the prospect of thousands of new data centers being created and maintained in space, far away from Earth, instead of, for example, alongside a major migratory bird refuge and an inland sea vital to the well-being of millions of Utah residents who live nearby.
These extraterrestrial data centers will not be creating 110-degree heat for miles around; instead, they will be kept cool by the freezing temperatures of outer space. They will not be using precious fresh water. They will not be disturbing farmers, ranchers, other local residents, livestock and wild creatures.
I’m not a big fan of Elon “Chainsaw” Musk, the infamous DOGE hatchet man for the current Trump regime. But in this case I’ll take him over a celebrity “shark” any day!
