Letter: Contrary to their claims, Trump supporters and boosters are trying to limit our freedoms. Consider the ominous Project 2025.

Former President Donald Trump, the presumed Republican presidential nominee, speaks during a campaign event in Doral, Fla., July 9, 2024. The Biden campaign has attacked Trump’s ties to the conservative policy plan that would amass power in the executive branch, though it is not his official platform. Project 2025 is a blueprint for former president and convicted felon, Donald Trump. Yet, he is trying to distance himself from the playbook because it could hurt his campaign. I wondered why and then researched the plan. It turns out many of its policies might be unpopular.

In truth, the most important question is not what Trump knows about the plan, but what we, the voters, know. Project 2025 is a detailed and organized playbook formulated by the Heritage Foundation to advance their restrictive, anti-freedom and un-American ideals. The plan includes, for example, reclassifying nonpartisan civil service positions and filling them with those swearing loyalty to Trump, eliminating efforts to fight climate change, weaponizing the Justice Department to serve his White House instead of the country, eliminating the Department of Education, rescinding FDA approval of mifepristone and ceasing its mail order access in an effort to ban abortion nationwide, and reversing progress the country has made toward equality for people of color and the LGBTQIA+ community.

They want to turn the United States of America into a Christian nationalist country by, for example, using the government to tell its citizens their vision of a perfect family — targeting marriage equality, and insisting the department of Health and Human Services be “biblically based”. I don’t know about you, but I want my health department to believe in science.

Trump supporters praise freedom. In truth, the Heritage Foundation and Trump supporters are the ones trying to limit our freedoms. They strive to limit how Americans unlike themselves choose to live, work, play, thrive and love. We all deserve life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To ensure that includes everyone, the people must stop Project 2025 by voting against the convicted felon and supporting the ticket that truly strives for freedom – Biden/Harris.
