Letter: The door has at last swung open for politicians to fly in luxury

Our poor representatives in Washington have to occasionally catch a connecting flight to get home.

I have a better idea than adding more direct flights from Reagan airport (an airport, by the way, that is there primarily for the convenience of politicians anyway and should be closed for a variety of reasons).

Just pass a law making it legal to fly on your campaign contributors’ private jets — it’s no longer a crime. (Many of you already feel it isn’t anyway). And then you can fly much more conveniently without having to fly with us voters (the rabble!).

And, based on recent events with members of the Supreme Court, I am sure the law would never be successfully challenged.

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
