A recent interview with the noted epidemiologist Laurie Garrett likened the current pandemic to a fire whose flames and embers are constantly being fanned and spread like a wind crossing states, nations and continents. And its infection rate is far higher, more lethal and its disbursement more efficient than past epidemics.
She said we need to acknowledge that this pandemic may extend for several years and that following the guidance of medical experts is essential.
This is a daunting outlook but one we need to respond to seriously and not piecemeal. To not do so will be catastrophic for us economically, structurally and emotionally.
