Letter: Dunnigan does not represent Utahns

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Lynette Wendel offers up numerous food options to Michael Driggs and Levi Adams as they visit the Taylorsville Food Pantry on Saturday, May 30, 2020.

This is in response to the Aug. 8 letter to the editor “Vote for a representative who will represent you,” by Doug and Sylvia Wright.

Rep. Jim Dunnigan has not been representing you if you live in his district or anywhere in Utah. He was probably the most outspoken member of the Utah House against expanding Medicaid, even though expansion of Medicaid was overwhelmingly supported by Utah voters (Proposition 3).

Dunnigan also opposed Proposition 4, which supported an independent commission to draw logical political boundaries where voters pick their representatives, and not vice versa.

Dunnigan supported the recent effort to tax business services, strongly rejected by Utahs. This would have resulted in cuts to education.

Just supporting lower taxes is not an adequate qualification for being an elected official. Important programs must be funded such as education, mental health and other services Utahns need.

It is time for a change. Vote for his opponent, Lynette Wendel for House District 39 in Kearns and Taylorsville.
