Letter: Republicans don’t care about life

(Rick Bowmer | AP file photo) The Utah State Capitol stands in Salt Lake City on Jan. 17, 2020.

Gov. Gary Herbert had a press conference where he, once again, nicely asked people to social distance and stay home, continuing to refuse to do everything in his power to protect the safety and lives of Utahns by issuing a statewide stay at home order.

The very next day he quietly signed into law bills SB174, outlawing all elective abortions in the state if Roe v. Wade is overturned, and SB67, requiring fetal remains from abortion or miscarriage to be disposed of via burial or cremation, adding unnecessary burdens to women and the healthcare system.

The governor and Republican lawmakers repeatedly make the point that they are pro-life. In fact, their actions prove that they do not care about the sanctity of life, only about asserting their control and power over women.
