Letter: Draft and abortion bans are not the same
(John Minchillo | AP file photo) Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., speaks during a Democratic presidential primary debate hosted by CNN/New York Times at Otterbein University, Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, in Westerville, Ohio.
Robert Kimball Shinkoskey says the answer to Kamala Harris’ question about laws aimed “at restricting what men can do with their bodies” is the mandatory laws for male conscription into military service.
Currently, however, there are no such laws beyond requiring registration with the selective service at age 18. So, yes, Sen. Harris has a valid argument.
Additionally, men could seek deferrals or exemptions including student status or physical conditions like, you know, bone spurs.
