Letter: Mr. President, remember your position

(Jim Mone | AP file photo) President Donald Trump arrives at a campaign rally Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, in Minneapolis.

Dear President Trump,

Many of us were excited for a candidate who promised many changes that were attractive to us, such as cutting taxes, cutting regulations, bringing back manufacturing jobs to the U.S., building a strong defense, strengthening the economy and putting Americans back to work with higher wages.

It seems you are doing a great job with so many things that are important to us. But your childishness is becoming so objectionable that it’s getting hard to support you.

Calling Sen. Mitt Romney a “pompous ass” is an epitaph that would fit you better. You are acting like a 6-year-old who tells someone he is angry with that he has big ears.

You hold our nation’s highest position, that of president of the United States of America. Is it too much to expect of an intelligent, successful businessman that, in this high calling, he should be an example to the world of leadership, integrity and kindness?

We should always be able to be proud of you, even if we don't always agree with your policies. I shouldn't even have to think about this, let alone write a letter, because it is so obvious to anyone in your position that you should be a good example.

Mitt Romney is held in high regard here in Utah. He did a magnificent job with the Olympics and has led a life of integrity and hard work. Just because you have chosen to make all your thoughts public without thinking them through doesn't mean that the rest of us are going to agree with you.

You are not winning approval. You are losing your base.
