Letter: Put country before party

(Trent Nelson | Tribune file photo) Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, hosts a roundtable discussion at Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019.

It seems that every morning I wake up to worse and worse news about decisions made by our current president. As a mother, taxpayer and citizen of this incredible country, I am concerned about our current president's call for foreign interference in our elections, which I believe is compromising our democracy.

I am grateful to Sen. Mitt Romney and Rep. John Curtis for speaking up about this.

I encourage those of our elected representatives who are silent to make a statement. These senators and representatives have sworn loyalty to uphold the Constitution and to uphold our institutions. They must place country over party.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
