Letter: Curtis’ actions don’t match his words on climate

(Francisco Kjolseth | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Congressman John Curtis speaks about "religious freedom for all," and how to weigh that with LGBTQ rights as part of the Congressional Series at the Sutherland Institute in Salt Lake City on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019.

In a recent letter to The Public Forum, the writer tells us that Rep. John Curtis “gets it.”

Curtis stated on Facebook: “Let me shock you. You ready? The climate is changing and man is influencing it.”

I guess it is progress that Curtis is actually saying this. Unfortunately, what he actually does is more important than what he says. What he does is support a president over 95% of the time who has already eliminated or is in the process of rolling back over 85 regulations that combat pollution and climate change.

These include eliminating regulations on air pollution, drilling and extraction, toxic substances, water pollution and canceling U.S. participation in the Paris Climate Accords.

The administration is even suing California over a separate deal it made with four automakers to build more fuel efficient cars for use there.

It is certain that Curtis will be voting for and supporting President Trump for re-election and, therefore, what he is currently saying appears to be pandering in order to gain support from more centrist voters rather than attempting to do something about climate change.
