Letter: Members of the Republican Quitter Bandwagon

(Rick Bowmer | AP file photo) Jon Huntsman Jr., the U.S. ambassador to Russia, looks on during a ceremonial swearing-in event with Utah Gov. Gary Herbert in Salt Lake City on Oct. 7, 2017.

Two letters in last week’s Public Forum noted how a newly reelected Republican congressman, Jason Chaffez, chose to quit so he could work for Fox News shortly after asking voters to let him represent them.

Now we hear that Republican Jon Huntsman just quit his job as Russian ambassador. That’s the same Jon Huntsman who quit in the middle of being Utah governor after he managed to lower taxes on the rich as his major accomplishment. He had also quit his previous job as ambassador to China. Is there a pattern here?

I suggest that Sen. Mike Lee and Rep. Chris Stewart should consider getting on the Republican Quitter Bandwagon. Lee quit his home loan when he was elected, so he has some experience quitting.

A lot of us would gladly bear the cost of replacing these two in favor of someone who would stay and work for the citizens of Utah instead of their political party.

Bill Miller, Salt Lake City
