Letter: Only women should pass laws that only affect women
(Hal Yeager | Alabama Governor's Office | AP) This photograph released by the state shows Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signing a bill that virtually outlaws abortion in the state on Wednesday, May 15, 2019, in Montgomery, Ala. Republicans who support the measure hope challenges to the law will be used by conservative justices on the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion nationwide.
Would a group of white men want a group of black men to pass a law that only affected the white men? Would a group of men want a group of women to pass a law that only affected the men?
I believe that legislatures made up predominantly of men have no right passing laws that affect women. A legislator should recuse himself from voting on a bill which will not affect him; but will affect another group of people. Yes, that's the point. Only women should pass laws that affect only women.
