Letter: Utah should play Utah State in football

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Utah Utes linebacker Cody Barton (30) defends on a pass in ended for Brigham Young Cougars tight end Dallin Holker (32), in football action between the Brigham Young Cougars and the Utah Utes, at Rice-Eccles Stadium, Saturday, November 24, 2018.

I was thinking about the football game Utah has with Brigham Young University and how fun it would have been if Utah could have played Utah State this year.

With Utah's demanding PAC-12 schedule, it would not be possible to play both of these teams in the same year.

As these in-state games are now just for fun — no conference championships on the line, because none of these teams play in the same conference (BYU is not in any conference) — I came up with an idea I think football fans from all three schools would like.

One year Utah would play Utah State and the next year Utah would play BYU, alternating every other year from then on. Let's give it a try.
