Letter: Take changing gun culture seriously
(Al Hartmann | The Salt Lake Tribune) Stuart Wallin, owner of Get Some Guns and Ammo helps customer with advice on a handgun at the flagship store in Murray Friday Jan. 8. Gun sales in Utah spiked in 2015, but didn't top the highs in 2012 and 2013. Both spikes appear to be in reaction to terrorist attacks and calls for gun control by President Barack Obama.
You had me. Then you wimped out!
A great and reasoned opinion piece on taking guns seriously. Until it wasn’t. (“Take guns seriously,” Tribune editorial, Nov. 16.)
Saying that universal background checks and prohibitions of semi-automatic weapons are “beyond the realm of political reality” is an excuse as opposed to leading the charge for changing the political, legal and social climate toward guns. Semi-automatic and automatic weapons have become the weapons of mass destruction within our own country and are debasing our culture and civilization.
We all must take changing gun culture seriously. United we can create the political will and mandate the courage to move forward and not continuously leave the political door ajar!
