Letter: Where to sign up for the First Amendment

(Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune) Executive Director of the ACLU American Civil Liberties Union, Anthony Romero, discusses the state of civil liberties under President Donald Trump's administration with members and supporters of the ACLU of Utah, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Alta Club.

Last week Nancy Walker asked in her letter to The Public Forum, “Where’s the lobbying organization for the First Amendment?” saying she’d gladly become a member.

That organization exists. It is the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU has been the foremost champion of our First Amendment rights for nearly 100 years!

sltrib.com is now free to access — no subscription required. We made this decision because we believe access to trustworthy, independent news shouldn’t depend on what you can afford — especially as misinformation and AI-generated content continue to rise.

Free to read doesn’t mean free to produce. Our reporters show up every day to ask hard questions and hold powerful institutions to account. That work takes resources.
