Letter: Beholden to NRA, legislators aren‘t keeping us safe
(David Goldman | The Associated Press) Guns sit on display at the NRA annual convention where President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak later in the day in Atlanta, Friday, April 28, 2017.
Another assault rifle killed 17 students and educators. “Guns don’t kill people. …” You know the rest. Assault rifles kill more people in less time. Had this shooter brought a pistol, we would be mourning the four or five dead and injured, not more than 30. It makes a difference.
Here’s the simple solution: Ban assault rifles by holding anyone who sells, provides access to or uses an assault rifle liable if it is used in a mass shooting. This would stop nearly everyone from wanting to manufacture, sell or own one.
The problem? Politicians who have the power to ban these guns in one piece of legislation are beholden to big donations they get from the NRA. They are more concerned about re-election than keeping us safe from mass shootings. And we just keep dying.
