The 27-year-old man killed in a BASE jumping accident Sunday morning in Cache County has been identified as a Salt Lake City firefighter.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department shared that Gabe Reilly had died following the accident near Leetham’s Hollow in Millville Canyon.

Reilly was with a group of around 8-10 people when he jumped from an estimated distance of 700 feet, and, according to authorities, “something went wrong.” Reilly allegedly did not have enough lift with his wingsuit, resulting in him hitting the ground at a high rate of speed.

Reilly was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said Leetham’s Hollow is a popular spot for BASE jumping.
