A fugitive on the run for seven years is found in Utah because he made the wrong $3 purchase

Ogden • A suspect in a 2012 California homicide is now in jail after police started investigating him for a fraudulent purchase of just $3.

The Standard-Examiner reports 33-year-old Cody Tripp was booked Wednesday in the Weber County Jail and is being held without bail.

Authorities say Tripp is the main suspect in the killing of 29-year-old Jordan Vigil, who was found dead in Tripp's Castro Valley, California, home on May 14, 2012.

Online records do not list an attorney for Tripp.

Tripp is listed as one of the Alameda County sheriff's office's most wanted fugitives .

Finding Tripp after nearly seven years on the run all started with a fraud case regarding a $3.08 purchase at an Ogden store.

Tripp will be extradited to California to face possible murder charges.
