2 Utahns hospitalized in critical condition after they were shot

Suspect is in custody after shooting in Naples, Uintah County.

Two people were shot and seriously wounded in a small city in eastern Utah on Wednesday.

According to police in Naples, Uintah County — about 175 miles east of Salt Lake City — they recived a report of a shooting at home in the city of about 2,300 on Wednesday afternoon. When officers arrived, they found two people had been shot and seriously wounded. A 35-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were taken to a hospital, then flown by helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City in critical but stable condition.

Naples police said that a suspect has been arrested and is in custody. Police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect, or any other information about the shootings, but did say there is “no ongoing threat to public safety.”

An elementary school near the home where the shooting took place was briefly place on “soft lockdown,” but quickly reopened after police determined there was no threat to the school.
