1 dead, 1 wounded in shooting near Sandy middle school

Police continue to investigate.

One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting early Monday morning near a Sandy middle school.

According to Sandy police, a fight broke out among a group of men at about 3:30 a.m. near 7800 South and 600 East, just north of Union Middle School. At some point during the fight, a man pulled out a gun and shot two others.

When officers arrived, a man in his 30s was dead and a man in his 20s was wounded. The injured man was taken to a hospital, where he was stabilized. Neither man’s name has been released.

According to police, two men were questioned but as of Monday morning, no arrests had been made. The shooting remains under investigation.

Classes at Union Middle School were not affected, although 7800 South was temporarily closed at 600 East and traffic was detoured around the area.
